Everyone knows the difference between good facilitation and OK facilitation, by being on the receiving end of it.
We know it feels different when we’ve been with a good facilitator. Good facilitators are able to understand what’s happening with their group – whilst also keeping an eye on the planned outcomes. They bring energy without a manic performance, and they give the group confidence in where they’re going. Really great facilitators are able to change direction in response to what’s happening – whether that be slowing, accelerating or going down a completely different route.
Simon, and all of the Thorpebird team, have extensive experience of facilitation in different situations with a wide range of leaders. This work has included leadership development work, team development, strategy building, planning and future focused visioning programmes of work. Our fundamental starting belief is that with the right people in the room, solutions, ideas and wisdom will generally reside in those people’s heads, and our role is to find ways for the group to share that with each other.
We also work with many other talented colleagues who can bring alternative styles, insights and experience as required.
Simon designed and facilitated a leadership programme for the top 70 leaders at Post Office during a period of major transformation. We were just 18 months post-separation from Royal Mail Group with a leadership team that needed to own and drive the performance of the business to become commercially sustainable. Simon was brilliant to work with – thoughtful, creative and responsive. He designed a programme that met the requirements of the brief but which delivered more than we could have expected for the team. He brings a rare balance of empathy with commercial focus and is extremely adaptable to varying stakeholder requirements, from the L&D team to the CEO. Delegate feedback was overwhelmingly positive about Simon’s facilitation style. He is incredibly intuitive and agile at moving with the group, creating a safe but developmental space. Simon would make a great partner to any L&D or Talent function and I would not hesitate to recommend him to design and facilitate leadership development programmes aimed at senior leaders
